ATTRIBUEE A JEAN COURT, CIRCA 1600
Chacun orné d'une bobèche décorée de caryatides alternant avec des grappes de fruits, sur une collerette circulaire ornée de monstres marins fantastiques, et sur une base évasée décorée de huit médaillons de forme lobée illustrant des scènes des travaux d'Hercule; le revers de chaque bougeoir portant une étiquette en papier inscrite à l'encre 'MONTAGU' ; très légers éclats, manques et restaurations

A PAIR OF PARCEL-GILT POLYCHROME GRISAILLE ENAMEL CANDLESTICKS
ATTRIBUTED TO JEAN COURT, CIRCA 1600
Each with a nozzle decorated with caryatids alternating with bunches of fruit, above a circular drip pan with fantastical sea-beasts, and a spreading base decorated with eight lobed medallions depicting scenes from the Labours of Hercules; the underside of each with a paper label inscribed in ink 'MONTAGU'; very minor chips, losses and restorations
These candlesticks are part of a small number of surviving candlesticks including a pair in the Musée du Louvre, Paris, dated to circa 1600 (Baratte loc. cit.).
