Le vent de la guerre soufle sur Paris. La Parisienne fait fi de l’Allemand en arpentant les rues, cachée derrière ses énormes chapeaux. Chez Line Vautrin, on « résiste» aussi à l’occupant en agrémentant ses « bibis » ou en se parant de bijoux, parfois en signe d’afront (La Manif, lot 493), pour échanger des messages secrets (Colombe et Sac à message, lot 404) ou encore pour arborer l’insigne de la fraternité. C’est ainsi que Line crée une broche circulaire d’où rayonne une ronde de silhouettes, main dans la main. Elle intitule son bijou « Si tous les gars du monde » (lot 377), en empruntant comme à son habitude les mots d’un poète, ici un extrait de la ballade « La Ronde autour du monde » de Paul Fort (1872-1960).
En 1956, le réalisateur Christian Jaque choisi ce titre pour son film, qu’il réadapte aussi en chanson éponyme. A cette époque, Line a déjà changé d’horizon, elle est alors en pleine exploration du talosel et décide de décliner ce thème en miroir sorcière – sa nouvelle marque de fabrique – qu’elle pique un par un de personnages modelés en talosel polychrome, tous diférents, et dont elle incruste les visages de fragments de miroir doré. Cette pièce unique qu’elle réalise pour elle-même, ne quittera jamais le mur de sa demeure parisienne avant de rejoindre, à son décès, celui de sa fille.
Véritable hymne à la paix, ces mots conservent encore aujourd’hui, toute leur résonnance :

Tout autour de la mer
Elles pourraient faire une ronde

The winds of war whisper over Paris. The Parisienne, concealed beneath her oversized hat, disdainfully ignores the German that is surveying the street. Entering Line Vautrin, one “Resists” again the Occupier, ornamenting one’s hat with what appear to be jewels,
sometimes of discreet afront (“The Demonstration”, lot 493), to share secret messages (“Dove and Messenger Bag”, lot 404) or to summon the insignia of solidarity. With this sense, Line created a brooch, circular and with radiating hand-holding silhouettes, entitled “Si tous les gars du monde” (If all the guys in the world, lot 377), borrowing, as often, the words of a poet, in this case those of Paul Fort’s (1872-1960) ballad “La Ronde autour du monde”.
The film director Christian Jaque selected this title for his 1956 motion picture, and adapted the ballad to song as the soundtrack. During this same period Vautrin chose to adapt this motif to feature as a Sorciere mirror, pricked with distinctive polychrome talosel figures, the faces ornamented with fragments of gilt-mirror. Vautrin created this unique example for herself, which remained fixed upon the wall of her Paris apartment until being passed to her daughter upon her death.
A hymn to Peace, the words have lost none of their resonance:
