Lot Essay

The vase was designed in 1886 and then subsequently produced for the Exposition Universelle, Paris, 1900. The example in the Musée d'Art Décoratifs, Nancy, was purchased from Gallé in 1904. The form of the work comes from Mamluk glass mosque lamps, but without a foot.
