Christie's Presents Latin American Art Online

New York – Christie’s online-only sale of Latin American Art features a wonderful selection of art, ranging from the colonial era to the present day, providing both emerging and seasoned collectors an exciting opportunity to explore the diverse category.

The sale is highlighted by a robust selection of important Mexican and South American colonial paintings, including the top lot of the sale, Miguel Cabrera’s The Immaculate Conception with Saints Anne and Joaquim ($120,000-180,000). Also offered in the sale are modern and contemporary pieces by artists such as Miguel Covarrubias, Wifredo Lam, Francisco Toledo, Matta, Fernando de Szyszlo, Rogelio Polesello, and others.

A notable collection included in the sale is A Poet’s Legacy In Art: The Collection of Ricardo Pau-Llosa including works by Agustín Cárdenas, Rogelio Polesello, Wilson Bigaud, among others. The renowned Cuban-American poet and art critic’s interest in Latin American art began in the 1970s, when he frequently traveled to Latin America and built friendships with many artists. Pau-Llosa credits the visual arts of Latin America as central to his sensibility as a writer and shaping his imagination as a poet. Further works from Pau-Llosa’s collection will be offered in the live sale of Latin American Art on March 11.

Another highlight of the sale is the collection of Dr. Romeo and Linda Montalvo. The collection reflects the couple’s passion and commitment for Latin American modern and contemporary art honed over the course of several decades. Based in the southwest, the Montalvo’s extensive collection includes fine and popular arts with a particular focus on figurative works by such notable artists as Rodolfo Morales, Ángel Botello, Rafael Coronel, Eduardo Kingman, Rómulo Macció, and Arnaldo Roche-Rabell.
