The Collection of Sir Nicholas Goodison British Art: Innovation and Craftsmanship Achieved £7,995,582

London – The Collection of Sir Nicholas Goodison British Art: Innovation and Craftsmanship achieved £7,995,582, more than doubling the pre-sale low estimate. The sale was  90% sold by lot and 96% sold by value. New auction records were set for Keith Vaughan and for a single panel Nottingham Alabaster. For the full results please click here.

Amelia Walker, Head of Sale, Specialist Head of Private & Iconic Collections: “We are thrilled with the fantastic result for this sale, which is a testament to the exceptional eye and connoisseurship of Sir Nicholas Goodison. Fierce competition from bidders in a packed saleroom saw prices far exceed their pre-sale estimates for works of art across all categories, particularly Modern British Art including paintings by Keith Vaughan and Peter Lanyon, as well as clocks, sculptures and ceramics by William de Morgan. We are particularly pleased to have achieved a new auction record for Keith Vaughan’s Sixth Assembly of Figures, which sold for £705,600, the top lot in the sale. Further strong results were achieved by Peter Lanyon’s Tree Top Nest  which realised £567,000, William Turnbull’s Ancestral Totem which fetched £554,000 and The Goodison Tompion which achieved £182,700. The rare group of Nottingham medieval panels saw fierce competition and Resurrection achieved a new auction record for a single Nottingham alabaster panel, selling for £138,600. We look forward to sale of The Collection of the late Lord and Lady Swaythling on Friday 27 May.”
