Peter Brown and Harriet Drummond, International Heads of the department, and Brandon Lindberg, Head of Sale: “Pre-Raphaelite and Victorian imagery continues to attract strong competitive bidding internationally. We are particularly pleased with the excellent prices achieved for the Stunners, Pre-Raphaelite works on paper. From the Stunners, five world records were set for works on paper, including one for Sandys’s ‘Proud Maisie’. Other high points during the auction included ‘Hop Pickers Returning’ by Munnings, from the Edgar Astaire Collection, which tripled its pre-sale estimate. Blacklock’s ‘A Miller's Homestead’ secured a record for the artist at auction. Bidders came from all over the world, with notable bidding online.” |
