RESULTS: Americana Week 2017 sales total $12,178,275

New York Americas 23 January 2017

New York—Americana Week sales totaled $12,178,275 with active in-room, phone, and online participation. The top lot of the week was Richard Clague (1821-1873), North Shore of Lake Pontchartrain at Mandeville, from The Jay P. Altmayer Family Collection, which realized $1,627,500, setting a new world auction record for the artist. Strong sell through rates were achieved across all auctions, with average 82% sold by lot and 88% sold by value, and notable results for the single owner sale Palmetto Hall: The Jay P. Altmayer Family Collection, which totaled $5,364,625 with 92% sold by lot and 99% sold by value.

Overall, six auction records were achieved, including artist records for Richard Clague (1821-1873), William Hawkins (1895-1989), Raymond Coins (1904-1998), Sister Gertrude Morgan (1900-1980), and Jimmy Lee Sudduth (1910-2007), as well as a new record for a Chinese Export Snuffbox.  Results for individual sales with top lots are listed below.

The top lot for the sale was A VERY LARGE FAMILLE ROSE DISH, YONGZHENG PERIOD (1723-35), which realized $118,750. The sale set a record for a Chinese Export snuffbox with A RARE BIBLICAL SUBJECT BOMBE PORCELAIN SNUFF BOX, which sold for $32,500. Both lots were from the Popowich Collection, which was 93% sold by lot.

Furniture highlights included A Rare Pair of Queen Anne Figured Maple Side Chairs, possibly by William Savery (1722-1787), offered as a parcel lot, which together brought $243,750.
