RESULTS: Christie's Classic Week Live and Online Sales Total $73,753,500
RESULTS – Christie’s Classic Week achieved a total of $73,753,500 across ten live and online sales. Across the sales, three records were achieved including William Shakespeare’s ‘First Folio’ which sold for $9,978,000, breaking the world auction record for a work of literature and realizing the top price in the series of auctions. Additional auction records were set for an important Ming Imperial carpet sold in the Exceptional Sale from the collection of A. Jerrold Perenchio, which sold for $1,710,000 and achieved an auction record for a Chinese carpet, and an Attic Red-figured Kylix attributed to Makron as painter and signed by Hieron as potter, circa 490-480 B.C., which sold for $1,830,000 achieving a record for an Attic vase.
The second top price of the week was Lucas Cranach the Elder’s Lucretia, Property from the Brooklyn Museum sold to support museum collections, which realized $5,070,000 after competitive bidding from 3 phone bidders and 2 online bidders. Property from the Brooklyn Museum offered across the European Part I and Old Masters sales sold 10 of the 12 lots for a total of $6.8M, exceeding the group’s estimate of $2.4-3.6M.
The live and online-only sales of The Private Collection of Jayne Wrightsman achieved a combined total of $10,071,750. The top lot of the Collection was Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres’ Odalisque, which sold for $1,710,000, and the online sale was 100% sold by lot, achieving $1,202,750, more than three times its estimate.
