The Collection ofLord & Lady Weinstock
LONDON - Results - The Collection of Lord & Lady Weinstock took place live at Christie’s London on 22 November, achieving a total of £4,390,533. The collection comprised 289 lots and included Old Master Paintings, English and European furniture and works of art, silver, gold boxes and porcelain, as well as important pieces from Lady Weinstock's extraordinary jewellery collection. The collection sale far exceeded its pre-sale estimate and the leading lot was a late Louis XV Ormolu-Mounted Amaranth and Tulipwood Parquetry Bureau Plat (illustrated above left), by Philippe-Claude Montigny, circa 1770, (estimate £80,000-120,000) which realised £453,600. In addition works by Ince and Mayhew were highly sought after by bidders and competitive bidding ensued on a number of pieces from Lady Weinstock’s coveted jewellery collection.
Highlights included:
(Lot 100), (illustrated above right) John Frederick Herring, Sr (Blackfriars 1795-1865 Tunbridge Wells) The Start of the Goodwood Gold Cup, 1831. (Estimate £250,000-350,000) realised £428,400.
(Lot 66), (illustrated above left), Diamond Necklace, (estimate £70,000-90,000) realised £352,800. (Lot 75), (illustrated above right) A fine 19th century diamond tiara, (estimate £60,000–80,000), realised £132,300
(Lot 211), (illustrated above left) A George III Sycamore, Holly, Amaranth, Marquetry and Painted Four-Poster Bed, attributed to John Linnell, circa 1770 (estimate £30,000-50,000) realised £151,200. (Lot 10), (illustrated above right), A pair of George III gilt-brass mounted Kingwood-Crossbanded Walnut, Tulipwood and Fruitwood Marquetry and Giltwood Pier Tables, attributed to William Ince and John Mayhew, circa 1770. (Estimate £100,000-150,000) realised £163,800.

A masterpiece from The Collection of Lord & Lady Weinstock by Jean-Francois de Troy, The Reading Party, (estimate £2,000,000 – 3,000,000) will be a highlight in the forthcoming Old Masters Evening Sale at Christie’s London on 8 December, part of Classic Week.
