Christie’s Zurich celebrated today 25 years of stand-alone Swiss Art Auctions with a sale total of CHF3,445,200 / £2,366,852 / €3,114,460, selling 68% by lot and 76% by value. The selection of Swiss contemporary works of art did remarkably well achieving a sale through rate of 71% for the category and setting a new world auction record at auction for Eva Aeppli (1925-2015). Active bidding in the sale room as well as on the phone, was complemented by robust online participation from both established collectors and new buyers, indicating a growing international interest in the category.
Hans-Peter Keller, Head of Sale and Director of Christie’s Swiss Art department, remarked: “We were pleased to see solid prices achieved for Félix Vallotton, including the top lot of the sale, selling for over one million Swiss Francs, and other key players of the Swiss Art market. The range of prices realised demonstrates a broad interest in the category from new buyers to seasoned collectors spanning across early modern through to contemporary works. The auction was followed by a pre-opening performance forming part of the official Manifesta 11 programme, marking in some ways the 25 years of stand-alone Swiss Art sales Christie’s held in Zurich. ”
