Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels
Sale Overview
Following from a year of record-breaking jewellery auctions, in May 2016 Christie’s Hong Kong will celebrate its 30th anniversary by presenting a selection of five exquisite jewels as part of Thirty Years: The Sale, a specially curated auction to mark the memorable occasion.
Jadeite will play a special role in the jewellery section of this sale as exemplified by a magnificent jadeite pendant necklace created by renowned Hong Kong-based jeweller Wallace Chan (estimate: HK$6,000,000-8,000,000; US$750,000-1,000,000). Another important jadeite jewel will be on offer: a jadeite cabochon and diamond brooch of remarkable size, exceptional polish and brilliance (estimate: HK$12,000,000-18,000,000; US$1,500,000-2,300,000).
Equally rare, an Art Deco sapphire and diamond bracelet created by Cartier in 1923 is set with seven exquisite cushion-shaped Kashmir sapphires of approximately 10.53 to 4.09 carats. Estimated at HK$60,000,000-80,000,000 (US$7,500,000-10,000,000), this bracelet was formerly in the collection of Lillian S. Timken, a famous American collector and benefactor.
Our anniversary sale will also feature a spectacular pair of Colombian emerald and diamond ear pendants by Etcetera weighing a sizeable 41.15 and 39.23 carats (estimate: HK$15,000,000-25,000,000; US$1,900,000-3,200,000). A further refined creation is a pair of Burmese ruby and diamond earrings set with two superb ‘pigeon’s blood’ rubies of 10.02 and 9.09 carats (estimate: HK$78,000,000-120,000,000; US$10,000,000-15,000,000).
