CHRISTIE’S GENEVA MAY SALE OF MAGNIFICENT JEWELS TOTALS US$102.1 MILLION / SFR.98.8 MILLION

THE HIGHEST RESULT EVER FOR A VARIOUS-OWNER JEWELLERY AUCTION AT CHRISTIE’S WORLD AUCTION RECORD FOR A COLOURLESS DIAMOND

An exceptional pear-shaped, D colour, Flawless diamond of 101.73 carats sold for $26.7 million ($254,400 per carat) in Geneva this week and became the most expensive colourless diamond ever sold at auction. As the successful buyer, Harry Winston had the privilege of bestowing this highly important diamond with a name, the ‘Winston Legacy’ Diamond, thus opening a new chapter in jewellery history.

The sensational gemstone was the centrepiece of the 300-lot Geneva Magnificent Jewels auction, which broke the $100 million mark to achieve $102.1 million, the highest total ever for a various-owner jewellery auction in a Christie's auction. Additional highlights included a magnificent and rare natural pearl, emerald and diamond necklace which achieved $8.5 million, and the ‘Star of Kashmir’, a superb cushion-cut sapphire weighing 19.88 carats, which sold for $3.5 million ($175,202 per ct) and set a world auction record price per carat for a sapphire.
