Christie’s Classic Week brings together auctions from the Antiquities, Decorative Arts, Old Master Paintings, Sculpture and Classical Japanese departments. As the galleries of Christie’s become a museum of classical art built around a selection of Old Master paintings from El Greco, Géricault, David and many other masters, seven distinct sales will feature masterworks ranging from Roman marbles to a Russian gold tea service and samurai armor. Revolution, a new cross-category concept sale on 13 April, will offer paintings, prints, drawings and sculpture as physical expressions of changing cultural consciousness. Viewings in New York begin on 8 April.
