This May, Christie’s is pleased to present three auctions celebrating Indian art across the centuries —  from Classical to Modern and Contemporary.

On 26 May, at 11am,  the Arts of India sale will feature classical paintings from the 17th to early 20th century, along with silver, jewelled objects and a fine South Indian ivory carving. Exceptional textiles include a rare panel from a royal Mughal tent, and an impressive group of votive textiles from North West India.

Also on 26 May, at 2:30pm,  South Asian Modern + Contemporary Art will showcase masterpieces by Vasudeo S. Gaitonde and Jehangir Sabavala alongside works by Nasreen Mohamedi and Bhupen Khakhar — both currently featured in major international museum solo retrospectives at the Met Breuer, in New York and Tate Modern in London respectively, emphasising the strength and growing recognition for work by South Asian artists in the international arena. Highlights also include iconic sculptures from the Indian avant-garde and rare, unseen works my modern masters Maqbool Fida Husain, Akbar Padamsee, Francis Newton Souza, Syed Haider Raza and Jamini Roy from distinguished private collections, presented at auction for the first time.

An online only sale Images of Rajasthan: A Private Collection of Indian Paintings, begins on 17 May, offering works from the 17th to the 19th century.
