Presenting international auctions dedicated to modern and contemporary masterworks, the 20th/21st Century Milan Evening Sale and the 20th/21st Century Milan Online Sale offered works, photographs, prints and multiples by the likes of Enrico Castellani, Alighiero Boetti, David LaChapelle, David Bowie and Salvo. Realising a combined total of €8,809,500 with a sell-through rate of 86% by lot and 97% by value, the leading highlights were Giorgio Morandi's Natura Morta, which sold at €1,820,000 and Yves Klein's La Terre Bleue, which sold above estimate at €50,000.
Showcasing leading international 20th and 21st centuries artists such as Martin Kippenberger, Sam Francis, Arnulf Rainer, Daniel Richter and Friedensreich Hundertwasser, 20th/21st Century: Amsterdam totalled 2,289,250, with a new record for Niele Toroni. The sale featured an Important European Private Collection notorious for its pioneering embrace of European and American avant-garde and offered 29 works from the collection of the late Ernst Kaars Sijpesteijn.
A Thousand Roads: A Private Collection in Rome – an online auction in Amsterdam offering works from an exceptional and vastly international collection – totalled €2,739,625, with an incredible 96.5% sold by lot and 162% by value. Highlights included Alexander Calder's Untitled, which realised more than double its low estimate at €437,500. The Courtship achieves more than four times its high estimate to set a new record for Desmond Morris and Marcel Louis Baugniet's Composition sells for nearly ten times its high estimate.
