On 1 December, Christie's Paris will be offering an exceptional selection of 20th and 21st century works in its Design sale. More than 200 works by prestigious artists such as Diego Giacometti, Charlotte Perriand, Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne will be presented. This sale will display five important private collections; one collection features exceptional pieces by Jean Besnard representing the full scope of its career. Another will explore the baroque and poetic world of André Dubreuil. In addition, the sale will also pay tribute to the extraordinary craftmanship of Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann with the Rivaud collection that remained in private hands to this day. This auction will also include an elegant directorial ensemble by Jacques Quinet along with a section dedicated to the collection of Charlotte Aillaud, including masterworks by the Lalannes, such as the mask made by Claude she wore at the Bal Surréaliste in 1972.
On 3 December, the Post-War and Contemporay Art sale will close the year in style with a rich and varied selection of exceptional artworks. The highlight of the sale will undoubtedly be a major painting from 1954 by Jean Paul Riopelle, which will be one of the most important works by the artist ever offered at auction. More than ever, quality will be on display with major works by Soulages, Zao Wou Ki, Mathieu, Fontana, Manzoni and Vieira Da Silva. Finally, contemporary art will be at the heart of this selection, including a very fine group of works by Invader, Kiefer, Rondinone, Orozco and Kirkeby.
Alongside the live contemporary art sale, the Post-War and Contemporary Art online sale will be open from 23 November to 6 December. On this occasion, we will present works of French artists such as Nicolas de Staël, Robert Combas, César or Maria Elena Vieira da Silva as well as international artists such as A. R. Penck, Etel Adnan or Joyce Pensato. You will find here an eclectic selection of works from the 1950s to the nowadays.
