The portrait of Anthony Maria Browne, 2nd Viscount Montagu, led the Part I live auction on 14 September, selling for £742,000. Lively bidding in our London saleroom, on the telephone and via Christie’s LIVE saw three new world auction records set for works by Robert Peake, Thomas Spencer and Aert Schouman. Online, many objects exceeded their pre-sale estimates, including for an Italian school three-quarter-length portrait of a lady achieved 20 times its pre-sale high estimate to reach £20,000. With an average sell-through rate of 92% by lot across the two sessions, the success of the auction series is a testament to Jasper’s unique vision and collecting taste.
