This October, Christie’s Photographs department will feature its fall live and online auctions. Christie’s kicks off the live auction on 6 October with Justin Aversano’s NFT of his key work Twin Flames — the first NFT to be sold in a Photographs auction at a major auction house.
The live auction continues with exemplary 20th century works by artists such as Ansel Adams, Diane Arbus, Constantin Brâncuși, Robert Frank, Peter Hujar and Robert Mapplethorpe alongside contemporary works by Adam Fuss, Candida Hofer, and Hiroshi Sugimoto. Significant collections include photographs from The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Collection of Herbert Kasper. Closing on 7 October, the separate online auction of 168 albumen prints, also from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, presents a photographic account of the American Civil War and includes standout works by Mathew Brady, George Barnard, Timothy O’Sullivan, and Alexander Gardner.
