Christie’s organised its inaugural sale of Comic Strips (Bande Dessinée) & Illustrations in Paris in 2014. Totalling nearly €4 million, the auction saw 12 artist records set, including for Hergé with Tintin au Tibet, which sold for €289,500.
Following our initial success, we have since consistently achieved top prices for the most distinguished artists. Recently, a William Vance illustration from XIII fetched €104,500 in 2017, quadrupling its presale low estimate, while an Hergé original cover for Le Petit Vingtième reached €607,500 in 2018.
