Post-War & Contemporary Art

As the global market leader for Post-War and Contemporary Art since 2010, Christie’s now presents the category as part of its innovative 20/21 sales format, featuring works of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Our regular Post-War and Contemporary Art sales in London, New York and Paris celebrate leading masters active from 1945 to 1970, including Mark Rothko, Andy Warhol, Francis Bacon and Louise Bourgeois alongside contemporary luminaries such as Jeff Koons, Mickalene Thomas, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Gerhard Richter.

In a break with our traditional auction categories, our reimagined 20/21 sales series reflects evolving market demands and collecting habits, featuring increased diverse representation of artists of colour and female artists, and cutting-edge contemporary art such as digital works and NFTs. Christie's introduced NFTs onto the global auction market stage in March 2021, and as the first international auction house to sell an NFT of a purely digital work of art by the artist Beeple we continue to lead and expand this exciting new collecting category. Christie’s continues to showcase works by emerging artists in our popular First Open sales, which attract new and seasoned collectors alike.

In addition to auctions, Christie’s organises selling exhibitions and private sales of paintings, drawings, photographs and installations by a wide range of artists and schools from early Abstract Expressionism through to the present day.

Our global team of specialists is always available for free and confidential valuations of individual works or collections. Please do not hesitate to get in touch to discuss buying or selling at auction, online or through Private Sales.
