FEWOCiOUS is an American digital artist and painter. His real name is Victor Langlois. Between 2020 and 2022, his NFTs generated sales of more than $50 million, making him one of the most popular artists working in the NFT space. He has worked with the LGBTQ+ charity Stonewall, the estate of the late musician David Bowie and Billboard magazine.
FEWOCiOUS began selling art online at the age of 17. The popularity of his NFT drops soon earned him enough money to move from his hometown of Las Vegas to Seattle, where he established his first studio. He now lives and works in New York.
In March 2021, at the age of 18, FEWOCiOUS collaborated with the virtual fashion brand RTFKT to create a range of real-life shoes that came with corresponding NFTs. RTFKT compared the artist’s cartoon-like style to the work of Keith Haring . Upon release, the drop made over $3 million in seven minutes.
Four months later, Christie’s offered five of FEWOCiOUS’s NFTs in the landmark sale ‘ Hello, i’m Victor (FEWOCiOUS) and This Is My Life’ . At the time, he was the youngest artist ever offered by the auction house.
Each of the NFTs, which came accompanied with a physical painting, was a reflection on how the artist spent five years coming to terms with being transgender. ‘I needed something to distract me from the nothing that I had in my life,’ FEWOCiOUS said in an interview with Christie’s before the auction. ‘That something was art.’
Offered without estimates, each NFT sold for between $375,000–475,000, totalling more than $2 million. FEWOCiOUS used part of the proceeds to fund surgery for other members of the transgender community.
In October 2021, FEWOCiOUS’s record price was toppled when one of his life-size physical sculptures, with an accompanying NFT, sold for $2.8 million at auction in New York, making him one of the world’s most successful digital artists.
