The company's success story began with a silver medal at the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1897. After Atuyer's death in 1912 the firm changed its name to Bianchini Firier and in the same year the artist Raoul Dufy (1877-1953) signed a contract with them. He went on to produce about 4000 designs for Bianchini Férier between 1912 and 1928. Dufy was a master of the whole process of design, from the preliminary sketch to the perfected fabric. After his contract came to an end Bianchini Férier continued to prosper and make fabrics for important fashion houses such as Worth, Madeleine Vionnet, Jeanne Lanvin Paquin and Patou. They produced scarves for Hermes, Jacques Fath and others and created imaginative designs for Givenchy, Balenciaga, Chanel, Dior and Yves Saint-Laurent, to name but a few. In 1992 the business became part of Tissages Bauman who still run it; but the archive remained with the previous owner. Each of the several thousand designs in this sale contributes to a unique overview of 20th century textile design. MORNING SESSION PATTERN BOOKS
