Lot Essay

Ascot is the only racecourse in England which belongs to the Crown, founded by Queen Anne in 1711. The present work depicts the Start of the Hunt Cup, a race which dates back to 1843. In 1825 George IV instituted the Royal Procession which now sweeps through the Golden Gates and onto the Hunt Cup course.
