Lot Essay

It has been suggested that these hounds belonged to Mary Eleanor Bowes, Countess of Strathmore (1732-1800), her first husband John Lyon, 9th Earl of Strathmore (d. 1776) or her second husband Stoney Robinson and their children, including John Bowes (1811-1885), the son and heir of the 10th Earl of Strathmore (see lot 25).
