Moses Haughton received his early training from an uncle, Hyla Holden. He executed numerous portraits, as well as biblical subjects and still-lives, and exhibited six paintings at the Royal Academy between 1788 and 1803. His nephew, Moses Haughton, Jun. (1773-1849), was reputedly a pupil of George Stubbs (1724-1806) and became engraver to Henry Fuseli (1741-1825), keeper of the Royal Academy from 1805.
