the first inscribed 'Beauty/Beauty, 9 years old, bred by Mr. Robt. Thornton of Stapleton, got by Barmpton, dam old Beauty by Young Eryholme, G. Dam by Thorp, G.G. Dam by/Yorkshireman, G.G.G. Dam by Bolingbroke, G.G.G.G. Dam by Punch, this Cow obtained the Premium at Darlington in 1842 being the first year of the/Darlington & Durham Agricultural Association.' (lower center) and signed and dated 'Painted by J. Wood. 1843' (on the reverse);
the second inscribed 'Stapleton Dr./Bred and Fed by Mr. Robt. Thornton of Stapleton near Darlington. This noble animal was exhibited at Darlington on Whitson Monday June 7th 1843,/being 5 years old fed on Grass Hay Straw and Turnips and weighed the extraordinary weight of 218 stones of 14 Pounds to the Stone.'
