Lot Essay

'Sweet Grapes' was modeled from 1927 to 1928 and cast between 1928 and 1971 in an edition of 26. One metal pattern and seventeen additional bronzes were cast by Gorham Co. Founders and eight cast by Roman Bronze Works, Inc. There is also a 55½ inches high version modeled in 1928 and cast between 1928 and 1931.

The present sculpture does not have a foundry mark, however the Q-serial stamped under the base matches that of others cast by Gorham Co. Founders.
