A VICTORIAN SILVER TROPHY IN THE FORM OF A RACEHORSE AND JOCKEY
MARK OF FREDERICK ELKINGTON, LONDON, 1888, MODELLED BY ADRIAN JONES (1845-1938)
Realistically cast and chased, on a slate plinth with openwork gilt flower and foliage borders, applied on each side with a ribbon tied laurel wreath, one engraved with initials above an inscription and the other with initials, further applied on each side with two smaller wreaths engraved with inscriptions and on the ends with wreaths engraved with initials on one side and a coat-of-arms, marked on base and on wreaths, the borders apparently unmarked, the base further engraved with initials 'AJ'
the statue 13 in. (34.2 cm.) high
weighable silver 82 oz. (2,550 gr.)
The inscriptions read 'CHALLENGE CUP'; '1889 Won by Orlando owned by Mr. John Peel'; '1890 Won by Home Guard owned by Mr. Buxey'; '1891 Won by Zephyr Owned and ridden by Mr. D. E. Sassoon'' and '1892 Finally Won by Hero Owned and Ridden by Mr. D. E. Sassoon'

Won by David Elias Sassoon (1866-1938) and then by descent to his nephew.
