A FINE GEORGE III SILVER-GILT CUP AND COVER
MARK OF ROBERT SHARP, LONDON, 1796
Of vase shape, the lower body chased with acanthus, with a medallion on each side above, one engraved with a coat-of-arms, the other with a inscription, supported on a leaf decorated spreading foot and with a laurel branch at each rim, with two intertwined snake handles terminating in a gryphon motif, the detachable cover with an engraved crest and a phoenix crest finial, contained in a fitted leather covered wood case, marked on foot and cover bezel, the finial apparently unmarked, the lid further engraved 'Green & Ward Fecr Ludgate Hill London'

The inscription reads: 'An Honorable Testimony of Respect and Esteem presented by the Trustees & Directors of the Phoenix Fire Office to George Griffin Stonestreet Esqr in Consideration not only of his great Merit and Abilities but likewise of his constant judicious & successful application of them to the Interest of The company Unanimously Voted 17 JanY 1796'
