Lot Essay

Guy-Patrice and Michel Dauberville have confirmed the authenticity of this drawing, which is recorded in the Bernheim-Jeune Archives.

Lot 116 and 117 are preparatory sketches for Bonnard first illustrated book, Le Petit Solfège Illustré. It included 30 compositions illustrating musical theory lessons for beginners by the composer Claude Terrasse. The latter was a good friend of Bonnard and married his sister Andrée in 1890.
