Jules Jürgensen (1808-1877) was born in to a family of eminent Danish watch makers. His grandfather, Jorgen (1748-1811) established a watch making firm in 1740 in Denmark with his partner Isaac Larpent. Jules was born in Le Locle Switzerland while his father, Urban (1776-1830) studied the fine craftsmanship of Swiss watch making. The family later returned to Denmark but in 1835 Jules Jürgensen returned to Le Locle and opened a watch firm under his own name. He was known to produce high quality and technically complicated watch movements like the present pocket watch.
