Cal. 27-70 nickel-finished lever movement stamped with the seal of Geneve, 24 jewels, gyromax balance, adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and 5 positions, silvered matte dial with applied baton numerals, apertures for day and month, three subsidiary dials indicating constant seconds combined with 24 hours, 30 minute register combined with leap year cycle and date combined with sector for phases of the moon, circular water-resistant type case with down-turned fluted lugs, sapphire crystal display screw back, case, dial and movement signed, with an 18k gold Patek Philippe buckle

According to our research the present watch has never before appeared at auction.

The reference 3970E is the third series of this model. Production of the 3970 commenced in 1986 and ended in 2005. The original series was introduced to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Patek Philippe and replaced the reference 2499. The first series was accompanied with a snap-on back, with the second series featuring a solid screw back. Following the second series Patek Philippe introduced the reference 3971 which had a sapphire crystal screw back. The 3970E was produced with both the sapphire crystal and solid gold screw back.
