Coined the "perfect Hollywood jeweler", native Texan Paul Flato was renowned for his flamboyant and humorous jewels that won the following of movie stars, such as Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford, Merle Oberon and Marlene Dietrich. His design-oriented style reached its peak in the 1930s and his whimsical and distinctive jewels were embraced by the Hollywood elite. His jewels were popping up all over the silver screen, adorning collars, necklines and lapels of the leading stars of mid-thirties comedies. When asked about his fabulous jewels, he said, "I don't know how to draw a line. I am a creator of jewels and guide my designers."
