Lot Essay

Accompanied by Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in 1961 and its subsequent sale on 19 December 1961. Furthermore delivered with Patek Philippe presentation box.

This watch has never been offered at auction before and is one of only six examples of reference 3419 with anti-magnetic calibre to appear in public to date.

The ingenious model was designed to allow the easy change of the leather bracelet against a metal version by unscrewing a metal ring fixed onto the case back and revealing the lugs, hence its name "convertible". Although the Extract of the Archives confirms the sale of the present watch with leather bracelet, it is thought that reference 3419 was also delivered with the metal version.

Reference 3419 was introduced into the market in 1960, the same year as the anti-magnetic calibre 27-AM 400, an improved version of the 1958 calibre 12'''400, now fitted with a Gyromax balance, gold lever and free sprung self-compensation Breguet overcoil hairspring.
