Rolex's celebrated Oyster triple calendar chronograph or "Dato Compax" wristwatch was available in four different series:
The first, reference 4767, was introduced into the market in 1947. Reference 4767 was replaced by reference 5036, followed by references 6036, the present watch, and 6236.
Reference 6036 was available with various dial layouts, cased mainly in yellow gold and in stainless steel. According to literature, only an exceedingly small series of 144 examples in pink gold were made. The present watch is furthermore distinguished by its beautiful, original two-tone silvered dial and the very good overall condition. Other particularities of this watch are the Super-Oyster crown and the reference number struck on the outside of the case back. Interestingly, both these features can again be found on a nearly identical watch, illustrated in described in I Cronografi Rolex - La Leggenda, Pucci Papaleo Editore, pp. 400 & 401.
For further examples of reference 6036 see op. cit., pp. 380 - 401.
