With gilt-finished cylinder movement, 8 jewels, the white enamel dial with Roman numerals, concealed under a spring-loaded cover with diamond-set floral decoration on translucent blue guilloché enamel, opened by sliding a button in the handle, the lorgnette-form case with finely chased and engraved floral and foliage decoration to both sides, the folded lorgnette released by sliding a spring catch in the band, together with a short length of chain and amethyst-set upper part of a key, case signed

Lot Essay

A.-J. Bichler & Hartmann, watchmakers and retailers, were active in Geneva in the second half of the 19th Century. The firm specialized in the manufacture of form watches, lorgnettes and spy glasses with watches, using bridge calibres with cylinder escapements.
