Lot Essay

The present deck chronometer was sold to Air France in 1938, at the time most certainly fitted into an insulated metal box.

In order to be used as a desk clock possibly by one of Air France's officers, it can be assumed that it was mounted to a later date into the present, custom-made deck watch style mahogany box. By changing the position of the brass lever in the bakelite panel, either the movement can be wound or the hands set through the large crown.
