With gilt-finished three quarter plate fully jewelled two train lever movement, bimetallic compensation balance, index regulator, diamond endstone, screwed gold chatons, minute repeating on two polished steel hammers, gold cuvette, the white enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer blued steel spade hands, subsidiary seconds, in circular plain case with repeating slide in the band, case and cuvette stamped with casemaker's initials JW and numbered, movement signed and numbered

Lot Essay

Baume & Cie. was founded in 1834 in Les Bois by Louis Victor and Pierre Joseph Célestin Baume as "Baume Frères". The firm specialized in the production of English-style watches and contributed to the development of watchmaking in Le Bois.

In 1844 Baume Frères opened a branch in London, first under the name of Baume Brothers and then Baume & Co. The firm participated at various exhibitions and won numerous awards. They also became the marketing agent for Longines in England.
