Lot Essay

Between 1929 and 1932, Schell produced a series of images of New York City conveying the visual excitement and new energy of the changing, modern metropolis. In 1932, Schell's photographs were included in 'Photographs of New York by New York Photographers' at the Julien Levy Gallery, a show which included works by a dozen photographers, including Berenice Abbott and Walker Evans.
