Lot Essay

Magritte Rammé, Beard's girlfriend at the time, poses with a world-record elephant tusk at the artist's house in Montauk, NY. Beard was friendly with the band Fleetwood Mac and made this image for their 1979 album 'Tusk'. A year later, the tusk burned in the Windmill House fire, a disaster that also consumed Beard's studio along with many of his prints and negatives.
