Lot Essay

On scouting locations in a new city, Polidori remarks: 'Whenever I arrive in a city, I find that the cab ride in from the airport is formative to my initial perception....of course I'm advised by interested parties, but sometimes you have to do just the opposite of what the experts say. Ultimately my choices are probably dictated by my subjective emotional response as to what is photogenic, because essentially I'm making a portrait. This is urban portraiture' (Metropolis, dust jacket).
