Lot Essay

This unique work on paper is a result of an action performed with Daniel Spoerri at the Eat Art Galerie, Düsseldorf, on Friday, October 30, 1970. Very much in keeping with Beuys' use of symbolism and the spiritual, here the artist's references to Good Friday, Christ (the fish), and acts of penance manifest in the physical object with literal pressure marks caused by the fish bones.
