According to the National Gallery the master proof was assembled by the artist and became the guide for the printer's right to print proof. The process sequence is as follows: 1. an image of a beaker printed in offset was transfered to a paper bag, 2. paper bags were glued to cheesecloth and muslin with acrylic polymer matte medium; newspaper imagery was transferred to cheesecloth over a bag; 4. an octopus image printed in offset was transferred to satin, 5. satin was glued to muslin with acrylic polymer matte medium. The two holes at the top right and top left were machine-stitched to accommodate nails for hanging.
