Isaac Bell, M.F.H. of the South and West Wiltshire Hunt, on Langhton's Last, riding up West Knoyle Hill

According to a letter from Lionel Edwards which is attached to the reverse of the picture, Isaac Bell, M.F.H. came to the South and West Wiltshire Hunt in 1925 until 1934-5. He was master of several Irish packs before coming to England. He was a cheerful huntsman and very popular. Edwards is particular about his dress, 'He wore a padua scarlet coat with a servant's six buttons. Padua scarlet cloth is in colour something between plum and chocolate. It is the livery of the Lowther family and by what right he adopted it I do not know.' Bell was a hound breeder and Edwards has shown the types of hounds he liked to his left and right. The view is towards the West Country from top of West Knoyle Hill. The horse is an Irish stallion which Bell both hunted and bred from. This type of horse is now extinct.
