Breaking Cover, Grizzly Bear

After studying at the University of Pretoria, de Beer became a commercial artist and an illustrator for many years in Johannesburg. From 1985 he devoted himself to wildlife painting and to conservation and he regularly supports the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation. He has received many international commissions including from Lord Montagu of Beaulieu, the Nigerian Embassy in London and the Ambassador of Taiwan in South Africa amongst others. He received the Award of Excellence Bronze Medal at the Society of Animal Artists in New York in 2006.
