With a diamond type note for report no. 16226252 stating that
'the 3.97 carat pear modified brilliant cut diamond ... has been determined to be a type IIa pink diamond. Type IIa pink diamonds are very rare in nature, often have relatively few inclusions and are noted for their mostly homogenous color in the rough. Unlike many other colored diamonds, the color in pink diamonds can not only be caused by impurities, but it may also be a result of the of the diamond's exposure to heat and pressure during transportation into earth's crust. Type IIa pinks hace been found in a number of mining regions around the world. Historically they were found in India (particularly from the Golconda region) and, in more recent times, most notably from Brazil and Africa.'

Lot Essay

Together with the following lot of matching earclips, these two jewels are an extraordinary set, not only as a collection of wonderful stones, but also for their ingenious mounting mechanism.
With the 3.96 carat light pink diamond noted for its similarity to 'Golconda' stones, the remaining white diamonds are equally of a beautiful old material, desirable both for the high colour and charming outline. Furthermore, as a collection of large matching pear-shapes of this quality and rarity, they are all the more unusual.
Fittingly, the intriguing mount has been designed especially for this collection of diamonds, cleverly opening out, expanding and finally detaching to reveal each diamond in its simple beauty.
