Lot Essay
Alexander Crum (1828-1893) was the son of Walter Crum F.R.S. (1796-1867) and his wife Jessie, née Graham, of Thornliebank, Renfrewshire. He was born on 8th April 1828. A magistrate, banker and industrialist, he married Margaret Nina, daughter of The Right Rev. Alexander Ewing, Bishop of Argyll and the Isles, in 1863. The family fortune was founded on calico printing.
