Château Cos d'Estournel--Vintage 1990
Saint-Estèphe, 2me cru classé. Château-bottled
Tasting note: Sixteen months in 100 new oak. First noted in March 1993: rich fruit, 'good future'. Next at the MW tasting of '90s in 1994: strong mocha, toasted, fragrance; lighter style than the Ch Montrose, attractive. Half a dozen subsequent notes. Starting to mature in the mid-1990s; a touch of vanilla, exciting and delicious nose; its initial sweetness terminating in a swingeingly dry finish, but good, rich middle palate. In 1998 lively nose noted again, evolved, ginger and chocolate bouquet; attractive, with charm. 'Coming round'. Most recently, drinking well but tannic. Last noted at the Knickerbocker Club, New York, Oct 2000 ***(*) Now-2015. Michael Broadbent, Vintage Wine
