Lot Essay

The present centerpiece is a rare example of a collaboration between Gio Ponti and Tommaso Buzzi. Conceived for the Italian embassies abroad, it was manufactured in a small series in 1926-27. The main part of this centerpiece is the figure of Italia, seated on a large shell. The complete composition comprises numerous other additional smaller pieces, two of which are included in the present lot.

One copy of the complete centerpiece is in the collection of the Museo Ginori in Doccia, Italy.
