Jack Kerouac who accompanied Robert Frank on a couple of road trips wrote about this photograph, '...a little way down the road, the inevitable roadside Florida zoo and the old alligator slumbering like a thousand years and too lazy to shake his horny snout and shake off the peanut shells on his nose and eyes ... mooning in his gravy.'
